An AI phone assistant that actually answers

Missed calls are missed customers. A voice agent picks up in natural language, answers the recurring questions and hands the call to a human the moment that is needed. Call +31 85 124 95 22 and you will hear one right away: that number is answered by an AI at DataDream.

Call a business and hit a phone menu or voicemail, and most people hang up and call the next one. A voice agent solves that: AI that answers the phone in natural-sounding language, immediately handles the questions that come back every week, and passes the rest neatly to you or your team.

More about our approach

This is not demo technology. DataDream's own phone line is answered by a voice agent, day and night. Call +31 85 124 95 22 and you experience exactly what your customers would hear: a conversation in plain language, no phone menu, with a summary landing in my inbox afterwards.

Technically, a voice agent combines speech recognition, a language model and speech synthesis, connected to your phone number and to your calendar, CRM or knowledge base. I build on a stack that proves itself in production at DataDream, including ElevenLabs for speech and Telnyx for telephony, and pick what fits per situation.

An AI receptionist does not replace people who have good conversations. It absorbs the predictable part: opening hours, appointment requests, frequently asked questions, taking messages outside office hours. Your team keeps its time for the calls that need real attention.

What you get

Missed calls outside office hours

Customers call in the evening, at the weekend or exactly during your busiest hours. Voicemail rarely gets used, and whoever gets no answer calls the next result in the search listings.

A voice agent takes every call, including the one at 11 pm. It answers standard questions immediately and sends a summary of every conversation, so in the morning you know exactly who called and why.

The phone interrupts the real work

Every ring costs focus. If you answer yourself between tasks, you pay twice: the call itself and the recovery time afterwards.

The agent takes the first line and filters. It handles routine questions itself; the calls that really matter reach you, with the context already attached.

A staffed reception is expensive

Full-time phone coverage is out of reach for many smaller businesses, and certainly for evenings, weekends and holiday periods.

An AI receptionist runs continuously and complements your existing people: it absorbs peak moments and keeps the line open outside office hours, without an extra rota.

Phone menus chase callers away

"Press 1 for opening hours" feels like a waste of time. Callers just want to ask their question to something that listens.

A voice agent starts with an open question and understands plain language. The caller says what they need and the agent handles it or routes the call, with no menu and no hold music.

Scheduling appointments takes calls back and forth

Booking an appointment often means three contact moments: the request, the proposal, the confirmation. That stalls when things get busy.

Connected to your calendar, the agent can propose times and book the appointment directly, with a confirmation to the caller. One call instead of three.

Doubts about privacy and the AI Act

May an AI hold and process conversations? What does the caller need to know? Uncertainty here holds many businesses back.

The caller hears immediately that they are talking to an AI, as the AI Act's transparency obligation requires. Conversations are processed GDPR-compliantly under a data processing agreement, and you decide what is stored and for how long.

What it delivers

  • Integrates with calendar, CRM and knowledge base
  • Callers hear straight away that it is AI: AI Act-compliant
  • GDPR-compliant processing under a data processing agreement
  • Works multilingually, Dutch and English
  • Live to hear on DataDream's own phone line
  • You set the boundaries: what the agent handles and what goes straight to you

What clients say about it themselves.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is a voice agent?

A voice agent (also called an AI phone assistant, AI receptionist or voicebot) is software that holds phone conversations in natural language. Speech recognition converts the caller to text, a language model decides the answer, speech synthesis speaks it. Connected to your calendar, CRM or knowledge base, the agent can answer questions, take messages and schedule appointments.

Doesn't it sound robotic?

Modern speech synthesis sounds surprisingly natural, with intonation, short pauses and a normal speaking pace. The most honest answer comes from calling yourself: +31 85 124 95 22 is answered by a voice agent at DataDream. Judge for yourself.

What happens when the agent doesn't know the answer?

It says so honestly and escalates: a warm handover to you or a colleague during office hours, or a message with a callback request outside them. Every handover comes with a summary of what has been discussed, so the caller never has to repeat their story.

Does this work with my current phone number?

Yes. You can forward or keep your existing number. The agent can also work partially: only outside office hours, only during peaks, or as a first filter before a human picks up.

Do I have to tell callers they are talking to AI?

Yes. The AI Act requires transparency: people should know they are talking to an AI system. The agent therefore says so itself at the start of the call. In practice it is no barrier; callers mainly want to be helped quickly and well.

How does this sit with the GDPR?

Conversations are processed under a data processing agreement, you set the retention period for transcripts and recordings yourself, and your conversations are not used to train models. For sensitive sectors, EU-only processing is open to discussion per situation.

Which businesses is a voice agent right for?

Any business where recurring phone calls eat time: practices, salons, installers, estate agents, accountants, webshops, rental companies. Rule of thumb: if the same five questions come back by phone every week, there is something to gain.

What does a voice agent cost?

That depends on your call volume and the integrations needed, so quoting a fixed number here would be false certainty. In an intro call you get an honest estimate based on your situation, including the running costs per month.

How is this different from a phone menu or voicemail?

A phone menu makes the caller do the work; voicemail postpones the work. A voice agent holds a real conversation: it understands the question, answers or completes the task, and only passes on what needs human attention.

Can the agent make outbound calls too?

It can, for example for appointment confirmations or callback requests. Inbound telephony is the base most businesses start with; outbound adds on where it fits. For broader customer contact channels such as chat and WhatsApp, see AI customer service.
